Warrior’s Touch available for pre-order

That’s right. Just in case you didn’t know already: Warrior’s Touch has been sent to the paperback printers, ready for printing and distribution, and to the e-book suppliers for the same (minus printing). And the Amazons have it available for pre-order! (Clicking that link should take you to the WT page at your preferred Amazon online store).

Feel free to send me links if you find them elsewhere (iBooks?). I have been checking Kobo, but nothing as yet. Nothing on Barnes & Noble, either. Ebooks pre-orders seem to be of debatable value. It’s entirely possible that doing a pre-order period is going to hurt, rather than help, my ranking on Amazon. I guess we shall find out! This is only my second time out of the gates and, as a second book in a series, it feels like different marketing “rules” are in play. And then there’s this tug-of-war: I want to give my loyal readers what they want: THE BOOK! But, I also want to give myself the best chance possible of turning this writing gig into a legitimate career choice, because I really do enjoy it… and I have this new story idea burning at the back of my brain waiting its turn.

Anyway, for those cruising past who haven’t been hanging around Facebook or Twitter, here is a look at the Warrior’s Touch cover:

I’ll admit, when I first saw it, I wasn’t immediately sold. But, I rather like that it’s not the standard fantasy dark figure in cloak running/hiding in the shadows. And I feel like the overall yellow tint will help it stand out on a page of other book thumbnails. Each character symbolises their overall journey within the story, without giving too much away, I think. And I’m looking forward to working on a cover for Magician’s Touch!

And for those looking for a little extra, here is a wee Easter Egg… I designed/illustrated the tattoo on Jonas:

Jonas and his Tattoo

I have previously played around with illustrating what it looks like wrapped around his body (the tail ends somewhere just beneath his left buttock), but my illustration skills as far as drawing (particularly colouring) people are somewhat substandard to my eye, so I won’t pop that here.

And…

… right about now my busy mummy brain is kicking in and I’ve lost my train-of-thought. How to wind-up this post? I have no idea. But I had better get back to my invoicing “day job” before bed time.

So glad to have you on this journey with me.

Looking forward to sharing Warrior’s Touch and spurring myself on to make decent progress on Magician’s Touch in spite of life commitments. In theory, finishing a decent draft by the end of this year is feasible… watch this space, I guess.

Warrior’s Touch is coming

Hello world!

I completed a first draft in 2014! Completed major edits in 2016! Finalised the formatting earlier this year.

Yes, it’s been a long time coming (due largely to my own tardiness as I grew another human being, moved house, and continued to work towards supporting my family–writing doesn’t do that) but Warrior’s Touch will soon be out in the world. When? Well, I’ll leave that for another post. We need to throw some dates around and pick one (depending on a few other links in the chain).

Shall we take a moment to feel the warm glow of seeing a real, physical copy in existence (and, no, I haven’t touched it… it’s on the other side of the world!)… (photos courtesy of Kristell Ink/Grimbold Books)

BOOM! It’s Booknest’s Fabulous Fantasy Fundraiser!

Fantasy Fundraiser banner

Hi guys and gals,

I know you’re all busy off enjoying your holidays–for those of us in the southern hemisphere, it means full summer holidays–but I have a little something something you may or may not like to look at, but I’d be most grateful if you would.

You see, a bunch of fantasy novelists (some 100 of us) have got together with a plan to raise funds for Doctors Without Borders, aka Médecins Sans Frontières.

The plan is to run two auctions and a lottery for the chance to win real, physical books, signed and dedicated.

I’m in there… see? Down the bottom, but totally dead-centre. I have a few copies of my first edition of Healer’s Touch left… yes, first editions. They had a few errors, two I will totally correct in the signed editions before sending. The rest are more minor. But that makes these rare books… so, you know, when I’m famous and stuff…

And you could win one. But, more than that, you could win, or buy, a BUNCH of fantasy novels… ah, so much good reading to be had!

Go, check out THIS WEBPAGE for all the details, but I can give you a bit of a run down.

What will it cost?

Each ticket in the lottery is £1 (so, whatever that works out in your own currency… I’m in New Zealand, so that’s currently NZD1.78, which isn’t too painful for the chance to win a bunch of books).

What’s the lottery prize?

Sixty books will be divided amongst six winners when the lottery is drawn on January 1st… GMT time, I believe. So, each of the six winners will receive 10 randomly selected books.

You said something about an auction?

The other 40 books will be auctioned off in two lots of 20 later in January. All proceeds will go to help Doctors Without Borders.

OK. I’d like to help, but I already own a bunch of these books.

You can help SPREAD THE WORD!

We’re running a Thunderclap Campaign, which is a great way to get things noticed online. If you add your support to the campaign, then on the 28th December (in whatever time zone Thunderclap goes by) the social media accounts you supported the campaign from (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr) will spread the word about our project and a bunch of people you know, or who at least know about you, can join the fun and help out a great cause.

Even if you can take part in the lottery and auctions, feel free to join the Thunderclap campaign. The more the merrier is the key, here.

You can also spread the word by using the hashtag #BooknestFFF on your social media.

So, come on, lets all do our bit for a great cause. SPREAD THE WORD, or GET RIGHT IN ON THE ACTION.

Read great books.

Help a great cause.

Do it.

Books For Christmas

(Oops. Ignore my premature post… clicked “Publish” instead of “Save Draft”, didn’t I? Duh!)

Fellow Grimbold author Paige Daniels had this idea for a little cross-promotion since, you know, Christmas is coming up. So, just in case you wanted some ideas for books to hunt out in your local bookstore (sorry, I’ve probably left this a bit late to order physical copies), or to add to your wishlist should you find yourself with a digital voucher of some sort, I’m going to share a few ideas with you right here, you know, to help you out.

And, I’m totally going to borrow Paige’s categories/descriptions, too.

But first … I say, I say, FIRST, I’m going to pay homage to Paige by doing a plug for her books, because she plugged mine but didn’t even whisper her own books’ names (Yes! Plural!) in her post.

So without further ado, check these books out if you like your cyberpunk a little dystopian.
